MoneyTurtle has no servers, no accounts of ours, no analytics, and no ads. Your financial data lives on your phone — and nowhere else, unless you sync it through your own iCloud (iPhone) or back it up to your own Google Drive (Android).
Nothing. MoneyTurtle does not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal data. Every expense, category, and net-worth entry you create is stored locally on your device. We have no backend, no databases, and no way to see your data — even if we wanted to.
The Projection screen on the Wealth tab downloads public market prices — Bitcoin, the S&P 500, gold, MSCI World and currency exchange rates — so it can show today's prices in your currency and past average returns. The request asks for that fixed list of prices and nothing else: it contains none of your data, no account and no identifier of ours. Like any connection to the internet, it reveals your IP address to the service that answers it. Prices are only fetched while you use that screen, and everything else in the app works without them.
Sync is optional and off until you sign in with Apple. When enabled, your data is synced through your personal, private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit — encrypted in transit and at rest, inside storage that only you control.
Unlike apps that route your finances through their own servers, MoneyTurtle's sync happens entirely between your devices and your iCloud. The developer has no access to that data, and it is never copied anywhere else. Apple's handling of iCloud data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy.
Backup is optional and off until you turn it on in Settings. When enabled, the Android app saves a copy of its database to your own Google Drive, in the hidden app-data folder that only MoneyTurtle can read. It is not visible in your Drive file list, counts against your own Drive storage, and is encrypted by Google in transit and at rest. You can restore it on a new phone from the same Settings screen.
MoneyTurtle asks Google for a single permission, drive.appdata: it can read and write only its own backup file and cannot see any of your other Drive files, your email address, or your contacts. The transfer happens directly between your phone and Google — the developer has no access to the backup and there is no server of ours in between. Google's handling of Drive data is described in Google's Privacy Policy.
MoneyTurtle's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. That information is used only to store and restore your own backup; it is never transferred to anyone else, used for advertising, or read by a human.
If you enable the app lock, Face ID / Touch ID authentication is performed entirely by iOS on your device. MoneyTurtle only receives a yes/no answer — biometric data never reaches the app and is never stored by it.
Signing in with Apple is used solely to turn on iCloud sync for your own account. MoneyTurtle does not receive or store your email address, name, or any account details on any server — there is no server.
You can export all of your data from the app at any time, in an open format you can take anywhere. Deleting the app deletes its local data; disabling sync or deleting the app's iCloud data from your device's iCloud settings removes it from your iCloud as well. On Android, you can delete the backup in Google Drive under Settings → Manage apps → MoneyTurtle → Delete hidden app data, and revoke access at any time from your Google Account's third-party connections. Nothing lingers with us — there is nowhere for it to linger.
MoneyTurtle does not collect data from anyone — including children. The app is rated 4+ and contains no objectionable content, no purchases against your data, and no ads.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Since the app collects nothing, any change would only ever describe more clearly how nothing is collected.
